Trades 26/11/13

DONT SHORT ON MORNING STRENGTH. NOT YET AT LEAST.  FOCUS ON LATE DAY FADERS.

Trades 18/11/13

Banked on gappers, most ran another 20-50% after I sold, however I ALWAYS SELL GAPPERS AT THE OPEN.
Did well shorting stocks that were up big either previous or same day, but not g/r rather on weakness.
Washouts didn't quite nail them.

Gappers: 5/7

$LBIO $PGLO $NVIV $SGLB $ABAT worked well
$CSTI missed a bit move
$SOPW moved after I sold

Grinders: 0/1

$SNTA seemed like a reasonable set-up, sold for tiny loss

Shorts: 3/3

$ACFN - worked well on weakness. $4 risk with 3.69 target, in at 3.86 covered at 3.76

Monday, 18 November 2013

Trades 15/11/13

Washouts: 4/9

$CREG didnt work - too many eyes on it with Nate tweeting about it.
$PME In too early, it made new lows so I was out. Not really liquid enough either.
$SANW had one green candle so jumped in after with 5 risk, sold half 5.29 got bored and sold rest
$GSE almost perfect, bought 2.55 with 2.50 risk 2.70 target and sold for 2.70
$TTS should have left it alone - too volatile

Friday, 15 November 2013

Trades 14/11/13

Was only around the first two hours.
$CAAS long was pretty good, chased and with big size but it looked like it would carry the momentum.

Other than that it was all bounces plays - overall 4 out of 9 worked ... $MGAM $MM examples of when the pattern works well.

Washouts: 4/9

Pharma's dont bounce!

$TTI was too volatile.
$EPZM good
$MM traded twice 1/2
$CSCO from pre - best avoid them in pre
$MGAM risked too much the first time around and not enough second time ...
$EGLE fucked up

$FMI nice move

Trades 13/11/13

Lessons:

ALWAYS SELL GAPPERS AT THE OPEN!!!

Gappers: 2/3

All completely demolished after the open - another reminder to not question it and always sell at the open. These gappers usually have been on a tear so downside is massive

Washouts: 8/11

$CLNT in 5.77 out 5.88 6.02 6.11 nice trend
$CWCO looked like it was basing 13.20, risking 20c to make 30c+. Good job I got out at 13 as it quickly dropped to 12
$CDXS bought 1.45 which was a bit much with 1.35 risk. Sold 1.48 as it did retest 1.35s
$YRCW from premarket - nice move
$MTL very nice too, called the bottom beautifully. Shortly after the open.
$OXGN good for 5c
$ALTI caught a quick 25c move, it bounced another 50c from there
$CHGG respected the trend, was good for 10c
$CWCO second time around it worked better with 12.29 entry, 12.20 risk and got out for 12.40s
$PERY b/e

Short Washouts: 1/2

$BAGL 16.10 with 16.20 risk for a break under 16 - didnt pan out
$PERY 15.10 with 15.20 risk for break under 15 - covered for 7c
Worth looking into this strategy

R/G Shorts: 0/3

Not doing this anymore

Trades 12/11/13

Good day of trading, very few unnecessary or big trades

Lessons:

Washout plays -

  • Have sell orders ready in case there's a quick spike
  • Good for a quick bounce, they mostly drift lower
  • Entry around 10 is best
  • Higher priced ones work better

Gappers: 3/4

Washouts: 8/11

$QUIK was down 15% in pre, took some 2.90s sold for 10c; it closed hod 3.15
$PTX got in 10 min from open 1.80 with 1.70 lod being risk, got out fo 2, it hit 2.30
$BIOL 5 min from open dropped hard out the gate then bounced, 1.55 when it made nlod I got out
$BIOL was basing around 1.50 at 10:30 rode it to 1.60; closed 1.50
$SRPT bought 9:50 15.45 with 15.20 risk 16 target, sold 15.78 and 15.94 with 10 minutes; it closed much lower
$AMED bought 10-10:30 at 14.25 with 14 risk 15 target. Sized in when it was basing around 14.25, sold 14.50, 14.75 within the next 30 minutes; it drifted lower after
$DM 9:50 1.25-9 then out 1.20 when it made new low
$DM 11 1.05 it looked like it was basing, didnt take 1.10 exit, instead got out flat
$LMIA 10:30 in at 12.03 out 12.24 and 12.48 within 15 minutes; it then drifted lower
$HOLX 10 19.36 with 19.30 risk (nlod) got out minutes later at 19.60s it never made a new low
$YRCW shitty setup

R/G Shorts: 0/2

$OESX didn't pull the trigger - would have made up for the next two
$ONE nothing much, shitty range
$OME dodged a bullet there, it closed pretty strong

Trades 11/11/13

A pretty poor day of trading, nothing really worked very well.
Going to concentrate on gappers and g/r shorts the next few sessions again.
With only the best late day fader setups additionally.

Lessons:
With Washouts, only go for liquid stocks and play them small to begin with

Gappers: 2/2

$NVGC $SEFS for peanuts

Washouts: 3/6

$RDNT was too illiquid
$BTN too illiquid
$ZLCS played too big
$CRUS was making higher highs - trade worked well
$EGHT same
$IMUC not perfect setup but worked ok

Faders: 0/1

$VISN just spiked out of nowhere, luckily I covered quickly

AM Parabolic Shorts: 0/1

$GERN well executed from the pre's, took profits quickly which proved wise

$GERN this was a nice setup but a bid red candle pooped all over it
$ARAY

Shorts: 1/2

$OCZ tiny on parabolic worked out ok
$OCZ again on a pop - covered for a loss it then went g/r

Thursday, 7 November 2013

Trades 07/11/13

Lessons
  • No more trades out the gate, wait for at least 30/60 unless there's a perfect parabolic short setup
  • That means no shorts on g/r out the gate!
  • Stocks move fast - take quick profits, half off when you're right, ride rest
  • Focus more on faders, seem to be good at those
  • With grinders I tend to do better later in the day

Gappers

This OTC halt had cost me dearly, will only find out the damage tomorrow. Couldn't make any trades with IB. I guess that's a rare occurrence but still pretty painful.

Faders: 3/4

$GERN traded successfully a few times. Was making lower highs and next to a round number, then again when it was teseting the day's support at 5.50
$OSUR Once it fell under support at 6.30 it made for a decent trade
$ONE Great fader, missed better covers as I wasn't watching it closely
$WSTL Didnt work out, but r/r was there and was only down 5c

Longs from Watchlist: 1/2:

$VELT Just horrible, no excuse knew trade was going against me yet kept adding. Saw a wall of sellers and came up with stories justifying why I'm staying in the trade
$ONVO Actually panned out ok, it then dropped massively

AM Parabolic Shorts: 0/1

$NURO fail
Might give up on this one, too risky

Grinders: 2/4

$AGEN $NURO Too early in the day
$OME Grinder combined with a new 52s in sight, perfectly executed
$MACK Nicely done with 2.50 magent entry at 2.40 sold 2.49, 2.59

Shorts: 0/3

$BEAT g/r out the gate - loser
$KERX same
$LPSN Stupidly mistook a chart making higher highs and about to break hod for a double top that demands a short

Wednesday, 6 November 2013

Trades 06/11/13

Lessons

  • Keep size small 100 lots, no more!
  • Wait for perfect setups, there's a reason why you have a watchlist, dont just buy the idea at the open ($MDCI, $NTR)
  • Don't let others influence your decision making (re $NWTR)
  • Subbies are good for just one gap
  • Know the difference between consolidation and grinding

Gappers: 1/4 -$180

$NWTR stupidly feared it being ETB and sold for a loss out the gate, it then went up 20%
$ACDU disaster, not gapping twice
$TPCS ok, went up further
$ITEN b/e didn't do much

Late Day Shorts: 2/3

$BEAT Done it nicely, it dropped further from there
$SUNE Didn't work out as well, it wasn't really making lower lows
$ECYT was ok

Longs from Watchlist 1/4:

$MDCI $NTR $CYNI - just bought these at the open instead of waiting for the setup to present itself. Better miss the trade than trade poorly
$VELT This one I did chase, but it had a huge gap to fill

AM Parabolic Shorts: 1/1

$SYNC worked
$GTAT worked 10.50 to 10.06 - it then opened higher
$CYTX under $

Grinders: 0/2

Failed: $GSIG $BORN $ECYT
Successful: $NQ $OXGN

Shorts:3/5

$KERX wasnt a good setup
$GTI was ok
$TA as well
$OXGN read the intraday moves rather well, although it was going much higher
$FU didnt work, but I cut losses quickly

Tuesday, 5 November 2013

Trades 05/11/13

Lessons - keep size small on the g/r shorts
Start risking more on the better setups ($RBCN, $IPI)
AM parabolic shorts seem to work better than longs, getting out before the open is key.
Grinders aren't my thing

Gappers: 4/5 $220

$ACDU triple zero for $145, thing doubled, and I re-gapped
$SIAF $12, it didnt do much after
$SEEK $6, went up 25%, closed down 20%
$PHOT $54 sold at hod
$REAC -$12

Shorts: 2/3

$RBCN -Perfect idea on the late day fader - shorted on anticipation that $11 would give with 10.75 first target. Covered sooner. It closed 9.90
$TTMI - another late day fader that worked out well, closed much lower too
$GTI - dumbest trade of the day, went far too big on g/r
$PVA - covered quickly for b/e it quickly dropped after

Longs:

$IPI - idea from watchlist, called it to a T should have risked more

Grinders: 0/2

Trades 01/11/13

Was trying out a few new strategies today. Managed to keep position sizes small.

Gappers: 3/5
Losers cost me commissions only

$RBCC - Had I waited a bit longer would have made some more

$SPDL - Wasn't very liquid at the open. Didn't gap. Sold into the first uptick

$IEVM - No follow thru so sold for commissions

$NWTR - Again five minutes of patience would have paid off

$IALS - Sold out the gate for commissions

Pre-Gappers Shorts: 5/6
Took really small positions trying this out, it worked 5 out of 6 times.
Need to focus on just 2-3 plays max, and look for the best setups (insanely up yet tight spread, with a clear r/r)

$ARIA - Gapped up 15c sold 2.32 covered at the open at 2.32. Worth noting it went much higher after

$DRAD - Shorted just under $4 with over $4 being risk - covered at 4.03

$FRO - Another big gap - sold 2.33 bought 2.30 at the open. This one went lower after

$OXBT - Sold 3.17 bought 3.08, went straight up afterwards

$IALS - Sold 5.89 bought 5.81 and it faded from there

$PVA - Sold 8.9 bought 8.86, kept going lower

Grinders/Perkers: 2/4

$IDIX - This was the only perfect setup, and I bailed too soon. Took low 4.40s on the perk, near a .50 mark, risking 4.30 for 4.60s. Sold 4.49 all instead of riding other half.

$FU - Not a bad setup around 6.5 but perhaps lacked the volume. r/r here wasnt great either

$IRIX - Sold for a small loss

$TXMD - Well had the right idea ... grinding near a r/g had I used 4.10 as risk would have been successful. Also entry at 4.18 wasn't perfect

Shorts:

$NYNY - Blew it big time - the uptick scared me, should have revisited it at least

$ITMN - Sold 14.5 (as I had on the w/l!!!) bought .41, .36

Promos:

$AFYG - Was going to gap it, had to take profits instead
