Trades 27/02/15

Today was one of those days i knew i should have not been trading, yet i ignored my rules and traded anyway; wasn't focused/alert enough to be trading yet i chose to not miss a day anyway;
Started well enough in pre though, but then made a bad trade on $CYCC and that was pretty much it for me

Lessons:

  • RE $CYCC - If borrows are scarce either pass or play super small with a wide stop; my issue here was playing a largish position without the ability to get in/out quickly

Trades:

$CRMD had some o/n - was hoping for a gap down, instead it gapped up, sold half at 5.30 from 5.4 entry yesterday; then added when it looked cracky

$CYTX long in pre on a dip; lacked the conviction, sold  for a loss

$GENE short in pre, covered some lower and reshorted higher, tried for some more but SSR made for hard fills

$ATOS small in pre on a PR that's likely to get some o/n shorters to cover

$CYCC not a great entry, but super-extended looking for a big correction; IB ran out of shares so couldn't add higher unfortunately; really sucked not having shares to borrow, as this would have allowed me to be more nimble rather than hold with a wide stop; had ample chances of getting out evenish, instead suffered a BIG loss, horrid trade; stopped out at 2 as i was afraid if it broke 2 it'd get to 2.10 in a heartbeat (which it later did)

Trades 26/02/15

Great trade this am on $ATOS - I always look back at day1 movers and ask myself why haven't i loaded up early and sold on the way up, so today I did and it worked well;
Tried to take it easy from that point onward, need to really focus on the best r/r setups instead of scalping for 2-3c a trade ... or just take the day off after that big trade, feeling so knackered now ...

Trades:

$SGNL had some o/n, sold for a small loss to focus on other plays; Shorted later on a lower high and again when it looked like it was going to poop; monster pop ensued

$ATOS in pre, *could* be the next GENE etc, buying dips as long as trend holds, will try to be patient with it; sold half in pre, saving some for a pop out the gate; sold into pops, bought a few more on a dips and sold rips; nice trade finally

$TSLA bought some puts on that rumour with $AAPL, these usually tend to pop and crap; worked well

$AMRN like the amrn that I am, tried to buy some after it unhalted and it resulted in a 10c loss

$SFXE shorted on this lower high, and covered flattish (doh!!!)

$ASPS tried on $OCN strength and lost a few dimes; small position; I'm off these sympathy plays, should have avoided

$BCLI nice daily chart b/o and right sector, was a bit quick to sell though as other bios were tanking

$CYCC poor initial entry, but stayed in as it looked springy, so added lower and ended up with a tiny profit

$KBIO a bit of a twitter pump going on, but then huge vol come in, took quick profit, seemed crowded trade; mounted to nothing after IB fees for cheapies

$CAPN quick flip thinking $7 will trigger some stops etc

Trades 25/02/15

Another day of mediocre overtrading - $LL puts saved my day, otherwise disappointed with $WGBS trades, $BIOC I scalped well but lacked the conviction to hold for a big move
$SGNL as ever lacked the conviction and missed the big move;
This was my morning session. One of my rules is when I hit my target I walk away; I didnt, and the rest of the day was a huge and utter mess, traded well too many tickers and then came $PCYC - ,
since I've been doing pretty well recently with options trading I went a little bit too big and into unfamiliar territory (huge spread and very pricey options) and it cost me all of today's profits and then some;

The final few minutes with $CLRX and $SGNL trades made up for the losses gladly and I've ended up in the green

Lessons:

  • Don't buy the spready costly options!
  • Hit your target for the day, be VERY SELECTIVE about trades (a-la $CLRX eod)

Trades:

$BIOC in pre - had to take profits as had prior engagements

$GENE shorted a few in pre 6.80s

$BIOC again in pre

$WGBS in pre on news; couldnt be too long biased due to them having warrants at 5 etc, but was worth a quick flip and see how it acts at the open

$WGBS another tiny buy before the open

$CAPN had some o/n , poor 6.60s avg, got rid of it premarket

$BIOC 3

$WGBS again on a dip - ahhhhhh gave most of my gains back here on that first trade; didnt cut it soon enough. Made some back on subsequent trade, but from being up $150 on it on the day, ended down $30. This top tick buy was avoidable

$HMNY quick scalp; so scary and spready, took my money and ran

$APRI - tried long first, then switched to short, with hod risk, trying to be patient with it; wasnt going my way so I cut it in case it pops on me

$BIOC 4

$SSH bought a few on a dip

$SSH tried again - gave back gains, waited for a pop at least after that big dump

$LL bought some puts, wasnt quite quick enough but made a few $$$ to make my day, phew

$CLRX chase size, was planning on adding lower, but took the quick dime

$CLRX again - gave some back

$SGNL tried but it didnt quite work

$SGNL spotted another buying sgnl here; lull trading - taken it off for no reason, actually had conviction but didnt act on it, there had to have been a reason why it held them 3.05s, perhaps next time set a stop at 3 ...

$TGTX took some calls on $PCYC move, worked well

$PCYC blarg, traded it with 10 shares at time, and ended down $100; then bought some very pricey options and had a nasty $800 loss on those; lesson here is to stick with the lower priced ones ... where i risk $500, not a $2500 position like i had here

$BIOC two failed long attempts here; at least i respected my stop

$BIOC now it worked

$SGNL made some back, looked like a good setup

$CLRX bought some eod in the 1.90s sold most in the 2.10s - seemed like a crowded trade so might take just 500 o/n ... then dodged  the bullet a/h, saw the price drop and sold those 500 for a tiny loss

$SGNL shorted eod - was going to hold o/n - glad i covered!

Trades 24/02/15

Some sloppy, avoidable losses today on $BIOC and $CRMD ... usually happens after a good day like yesterday, but no excuse really;
Two big losses, luckily offset by two biggish wins, but not cutting losses quickly is something I'm yet unable to do properly;

Then overtraded $APRI without much edge (it worked eventually) and $CAPN ...

Lots of DUH moments today, much to improve tomorrow;

$MU really in the first few minutes of the day made the difference between a red or green day, glad it's the latter

Lessons:

  • Never follow blindly into a trade, even if it's following @lx21 ... (RE $EYES) - while he might (and probably is) right long term, the intraday signals weren't favourable for a short
  • Trade goes against you or not the way you planned - get out immediately (RE $CRMD)
  • Don't short just because shares have become available (RE $CAPN)

Trades:

$CPAN long in pre fora quick dime, will re-visit later

$BIOC short in pre, 2.60 stop; plan was to hold for a fade, so didnt take off on higher low, added nearer 2.60, will stop out if it bases there at the open; all worked well except i forgot to stop out and got slapped silly; no borrows to add either; awful stuff

$CRIS entries premarket, nice covers then added on a pop; covered in the end as it seemed have been holding and had to focus on better opps like $CRMD

$BIOC -

$MU

$RIGL - nice entry and covers on 3/4, other 1/4 got a bit too patient with; entered again on a pop; didnt work, got out before that big other pop and fade; nice bottom covers though, happy with trade overall

$CRMD - awful entry, it came back and red on the day, started focusing on it and shoring pops; covered some at lower levels before a big pop; added back a few on that pop, hod is my risk now; it burst thru hods and buried me; had ample opportunities to get otu when it just grinded, but i wanted that big drop

$HMNY saw a low float mover, turns out it was a newsletter, quick flip worked well; got in and and out a few more times, small size due to ugly spread; should really have avoided after first trade

$EYES shorted some here as some negative sentiment came in, then reversed to a long when it looking perky; see comments above about following blindly; managed to b/e on the trade (chart just shows the buys, the s/s i executed via IB)

$GE bought some calls, but picked wrong week so with the cost of buying/selling trade was just about even (+$30)

$CIEN bought on increased call buys

$BIOC chased some as it looked like it wanted much higher

$APRI terrible chase entry, and then some nice adds; when will I learn to stop with the silly chases and be patient with the entries; awful trade that worked out ok for b/e

$BIOC small re-entry, maybe can be patient with 500sh and wait for parabolic to sell; sold instead when it failed to break 3.50, could always re-enter

$BIOC another quick flip

$BIOC two trades here, one when it looked like 3.30s were holding, got out as soon as they broke; second long again on a dip, "they" started their games again, saw huge offer that was my queue to get back in

$BIOC another attempt

$BIOC 7

$SLXP $160 calls - worked ok for some change

$BIOC 8

$APRI shorted this 2.50 o/u an overextended chart, couldnt quite hold onto gains, see how it reacts eod; meh, b/e a bit of a boredom trade

$P some $15 puts on this big move, didnt fill much and flipped them quickly for a small profit

$APRI after getting whipsawed all day finally managed a good trade on it; not great entry but used size and conviction

$CAPN had some o/n which sold for a profit, then short at 7 (just because IB had shares), got squeezed and didnt respect my stop (vwap), then went long and managed to b/e on the day on it; another foolish trade
