Mixed trading today - most was good, but traded too many names at the open which is a recipe for disaster (or cutting winners short, and not cutting losers fast enough).
Tomorrow will really try to focus on fewer names, make it more manageable.
Additionally recently I'm finding that I've improved in judging when to apply patience with winners/losers, which is such a subtle art. Helped today with $SPY puts (would have suffered a loss had I been greedy) and $RADA long - had the sense it was going to go higher so didn't panic when I had that awful first entry. (On the flip side I had some 2.60s with which I wasn't patient at all ... but that was before the big volume kicked in)
Also on $VGGL I was over thinking and I thought I was outsmarting everyone else by covering around the time of the yet another negative report on the company. I figured no one else left to short hence a squeeze is coming. I was wrong :)
Lessons:
- Focus on LESS plays out the gate
Longs:
$IDRA for weak open r/g - good idea but wasnt patient enough
$RADA on news, usually runs; worked out well; i never trust these, this went up further 50c or so
$RADA chased like an idiot 3.27, totally emotional trade, listening to tweets saying this could double etc ... added more lower on a dip (where I should have bought in the first place). When I was back at even I sold half, and rest for a small gain. That chase, and poor avg just put me off trading it
$VII trying a few on sector momo; done playing $VII it's such a shi**y stockShorts:
$ARIA figured g/r move would send it down a few cents
$SPY $200 Jan puts - plan is to swing, though I'd probably grab a profit if i see it today; I sure did
$VGGL so volatile, pretty happy with how i traded it
$ARRY on weakness - good trade overall, messed up a little with my final covers, could have been more patient, but it looked like 4.50 held
$CANF not really the best entry, but looked like it was done; covered for a few cents, didnt want to hold o/n given how it gapped up today, but will look to short again tomorrow
$SQNM 3.82 risk - another good idea poorly executed, short have waited for lower high
$TLYS small position tight stop - didnt work; should have waited for lower highs; they came later, reshorted and it worked well; later i re-entered again, less than optimal entry, added higher with prior high risk; the r/r seems good especially considering spy weakness; nice patience there, didnt get spooked on the failed 9 test; thought it'd pull some more, but decided to be safe and covered when it held 8.80; reshorted again when vol dried and it lingered just above 8.80s
$IDRA r/g risk -worked well;
$GIL tried with 50sh - too strong; tried again and stopped out quickly
